International Conference on The Natural Products Drug Discovery and Phytotherapeutics

    08 Ekim - 11 Ekim 2020
    İstanbul, Türkiye
    Hilton İstanbul Bosphorus Hotel
Dear Colleague,

Anatolia is the birth place of Western Medicine, many prominent historical figures that played key role in the establishment of Western Medicine were born and lived in Anatolia. Pedanios Dioscorides who has written “De Materia Medica” in the 1st Century B.C. was born in Anazarbus and educated in Tarsus (Antique Cilicia) in the Mediterranean region of Anatolia. Galenus, the king of Greek/Roman physician/pharmacist, was born in Pergamon and practiced at the Asclepion near Pergamon (Aegean Region of Anatolia) before moving to Rome and becoming personal physician of emperors Commodus, Septimius Severus and Caracalla. Mithradates VI, king of Sinope (Black Sea Region of Anatolia), known as the Poison King and was the inventor of clinical trials as well as, Mithridatum, an antidote of all known poisons of his time.

Anatolia has more than 12000 plant species with 30% of endemism ratio and is one of the major center of biodiversity world-wide. In fact, Turkey is the only country that has three biodiversity hot spots within its borders. Furthermore, Anatolia has a long history of ethnobotanical/ethnopharmacological records of its native medicinal plants which no doubt fueled the emergence of Western Medicine.

Due to its natural bridge status between the Eastern and Western Civilizations, Anatolia also acted as the mixing ground of Eastern and Western Traditional Medicine. One can easily discover the influence of both Eastern and Western Traditional Medicine while examining the ethnopharmacological uses of local medicinal plants in Anatolia.

One of the mainstream drug discovery pathway in pharmaceutical industry is the discovery of novel drug substances from natural resources, many block-buster compounds such as Lovastatin (lead compound of statin therapy), cyclosporin, mycophenolic acid (immunosuppressant), Taxol® (anticancer) are just a few examples of the products of this pathway. Advancement of analytical and spectroscopic, high throughput screening technologies as well as virtual screening via high power computational modeling/docking applications has enabled rapid and efficient discovery of novel drug substances from the natural resources.

We are pleased to invite scientists working in the discovery of new drug susbtances from the natural resources, traditional medicinal plants as well as development of phytopharmaceuticals to share their knowledge with the scientific community at the International Conference on the Natural Drug Discovery and Phytotherapeutics in Istanbul, Turkey in October 2020.
